Search the Union County Court Docket

One municipal court covers all of Union County, so a speeding ticket written in any township still lands with the Marysville clerk, alongside misdemeanors, small claims, and smaller civil suits. Felony cases, divorces, and larger money disputes sit with the Union County Clerk of Courts instead. Probate and juvenile files stay with their own judge and deputy clerks, and those are asked for directly. Search by name or case number. Online lists trail the counter by about a day, and letter suffixes on a ticket number often mean several linked cases, so a Union County court docket search that comes up thin is worth repeating at the clerk's window.

Union County eServices and the Court Docket

Union County labels its Common Pleas remote option Search Public Records. Coverage spans Domestic, Civil, Certificate of Judgment, Court of Appeals, and felony-criminal material. Indexing goes back to 1990, and imaged documents start in 2002. Sensitive documents live with the Legal Office. Expect updates on a 72-hour cycle. That matters if you are watching for a new filing or a fresh hearing date on the court docket.

The county's public-search information separates two things. One is the public lookup. The other is the ECF filing workflow used by attorneys. The published guide shows Search, eFile, and Log On controls. The live result screens may offer name, date, or court filters. That is best confirmed directly with the clerk. Probate filings from June 1, 2019 onward may go through the portal. Some Probate and Juvenile case types still have no remote access.

Union County court docket eServices public-record search interface

Think of the eServices screen as one doorway into Union County court docket information for cases that qualify. It does not replace the division that keeps the actual file.

Court Dockets: What They Show

A docket is the court's own timeline of a case. Union's older appearance and trial docket books make that plain. Case numbers, styles, entries, settings, outcomes, and costs are separate layers of the record. Each lives on a different part of the file. A current Daily Court Schedule is thinner still. It lists single events, not the whole file.

Case NumberUnion schedules use year, type, and sequence forms such as YY-CR-#### and YY-CV-####.
Caption / StyleThe title identifying the case on a schedule or record.
SettingThe listed court event, such as arraignment, pretrial, motion hearing, or trial.
Judicial OfficerThe judge or magistrate shown on the Daily Court Schedule.
Entry or FilingA docketed court action; the underlying document may require a clerk request.
DispositionThe recorded final outcome or status, when the record is accessible.

Public screens do not show every field. The court posts no view of private result pages, so ask the clerk which portal tabs, document buttons, financial fields, and redaction displays apply to your case lookup.

Union County Docket Codes and Status Terms

The letter codes on a Union County schedule hint at the case family. They never replace the court's own record. Criminal settings carry CR. Civil and domestic matters show up with CV, DR, DS, DV, or CJ. Union has no published legend explaining every suffix, and CJ in particular goes undefined. So read the code alongside the court, the case style, and the type of setting. The code alone tells you nothing certain about the docket entry.

Arraignment
A criminal setting for the accusation and plea procedure.
Pretrial
A local case-management conference before trial.
Continuance
A court-approved move of a setting. A request alone does not move it.
IIL
Intervention in lieu of conviction, seen locally in IIL Plea and IIL Violation settings.
Journal entry
A written court action entered into the case record.

Status words matter most when you hold a hearing date next to the full Union County court docket. A label tells you why the case was set that day. It rarely tells you how things ended.

Union County Courts and Their Dockets

Union County's Court of Common Pleas works through four divisions. These are General, Domestic Relations, Probate, and Juvenile. The Union County Clerk of Courts, Legal Division, is where the General, Domestic Relations, and appellate records live. Probate and Juvenile files sit with each Judge / Ex Officio Clerk and the deputy clerks instead. Marysville Municipal Court covers the whole county. One historical note: the old County Court folded into Marysville Municipal Court back in 1964. Nobody should chase it for a current docket search.

Marysville's countywide reach comes straight from the Ohio municipal-court statute. For any Union County docket search, match the court level first; a mailing address alone will not settle it.

Union County Court Docket Archives

Union County's digital coverage has firm boundaries. The public index reaches back to 1990. Online images begin only in 2002. For probate, there is an online route for records filed after June 1, 2019. Older or closed probate material sits with the Probate Clerk or the Records Center instead. When a Union County court record predates those ranges, the County Records Center and Archives is the right call. It preserves the historic court material that never made it online.

Union County court docket public-record search coverage notice

Union County's own coverage notice explains the gap you may hit during a docket search: an index entry can turn up even when the matching historical image was never posted online. Read the notice before assuming a record is missing.

Court Dates and Settings in Union County

Common Pleas posts a rolling Daily Court Schedule as a PDF. It is not an interactive calendar. Each line shows the date, judicial officer, time, case number, caption or style, and a setting label. Labels you will see include arraignment, pretrial, plea, sentencing, jury trial, motion hearing, status conference, Recovery Court, and Veterans Treatment Court. Keep in mind the PDF carries no filed documents. It also skips financial details and full disposition history.

Treat the schedule as a lead. Then confirm with the docket and the court before the hearing. The calendar path depends on which court holds the case. You might use the Common Pleas schedule and eServices, Marysville Calendar Search, or the Probate or Juvenile clerk. The Union County court schedule page lays out the full route and setting vocabulary.

Union County court docket Daily Court Schedule gateway

The County's schedule gateway is a good place to check a fresh setting. Just remember that a continuation or a restriction can change what the public schedule shows on any given day.

Union County Docket Resets and Continuances

A date on a Union County court docket can still move. Continuances in Common Pleas follow Local Rule 18.05. The rule asks for a written motion, prompt delivery to the Assignment Commissioner or Domestic Bailiff, an effort to get opposing consent, a stated reason, and a list of prior continuances. Until a judge or magistrate approves the request, the case keeps its noticed setting. The party who asked for the change gets the new date and gives notice.

A motion entry is only a request. Municipal cases work differently. Check the citation, use CaseLook or Calendar Search. Then call the municipal clerk. The Common Pleas rule does not govern municipal procedure.

Union County Specialty Court Dockets

Union County runs two treatment dockets at the Common Pleas level. First Steps Toward Recovery, or Recovery Court, takes accepted felony offenders on a specialized docket. Local Rule 26.13 sets up Veterans Treatment Court for qualifying participants. Neither program adds its own public case-search portal. The General Division criminal docket underneath is still the record to pull when you need a court filing or a hearing setting.

Probate and Juvenile have treatment-court programs too. A public report or calendar may name a program. That does not open the juvenile file. Confidentiality rules still govern the case, no matter how visible the program itself is.

Union County court docket Legal Division information

The Legal Division keeps the county record for Common Pleas work. That includes the underlying case attached to any specialized docket, so a Union County docket lookup starts there.

Docket Access Under Ohio Law

Ohio court-record access flows from the clerk who holds the file. Court rules govern it as well. Inspection and copies are often available in person. Online copies are not guaranteed. Juvenile, sealed, protected, and some domestic material can carry restrictions. A routine records request will not override a judge's access order. If an eServices docket search comes back empty, the division clerk can walk you through the right route. A restricted file may still stay closed.

Key Rules:

Ohio Sup.R. 11.09–11.16 defines current court-record access, restrictions, bulk distribution, and remedies.

ORC 2303.12 addresses clerk docket duties and important remote-access exclusions.

Ohio Public Records Act, ORC 149.43 supports prompt inspection and copying of public-office records subject to exceptions.

ORC 2953.32 provides the criminal sealing and expungement process for eligible matters.

Union County court docket clerk public-records policy

The clerk's policy offers a plain local lesson. Redactions and denials are supposed to come with an explanation. And a Union County court docket is a civic reference, not a full public display of every file.

Union County Court Docket Technology

Union County's record system mixes new technology with deep archives. Joint ECF arrived in May 2023. Attorney e-filing turned generally mandatory in October 2023. An eServices filing account is not the same thing as a public docket search. Attorneys who register see only cases where they serve as counsel of record. Everyone else follows the separate record rules and their remote-access limits.

The Records Center kept busy in 2024. Its work covered 20,076 Probate images and 53,378 indexed Probate entries. It also moved 955 microfilm rolls to storage. So a Union County court docket today may live as an online search, a clerk-held electronic file, or an archival item. An archival item needs staff help. None of that guarantees every historic docket has been digitized.

How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records

One office handles most of the paperwork behind Union County court dockets. The Clerk of Courts, Legal Division, keeps the records for Common Pleas General Division. That covers both criminal and civil. It also maintains Domestic Relations files and Third District appellate cases. It indexes each and certifies copies on request. When you need a filed document or an official certified copy, the county sends you to the Legal Office. A search screen alone is never treated as the final court record. Two other dockets sit elsewhere. Probate and Juvenile cases run through their own Judge, who serves as Ex Officio Clerk. Marysville Municipal Court keeps its own municipal files.

Union County Docket Copy Costs

What a copy costs depends on what you order. The published figures separate plain public-record copying from statutory clerk services, and they are not a flat quote for a certified docket or a thick file. Before you send money, ask the custodian to pin down the record, the delivery cost, and any prepayment rule. Get the number first.

Statutory copies including certificate or seal$1 per page under ORC 2303.20(Z)

Electronic transmission$2 plus $1 per page under ORC 2303.20(Y)
Written record check$5
Certified copyEmail Legal Office for the current quote and instructions

Plan on prepaying for mail, delivery, or transmission. The clerk can also route a request to Probate, Juvenile, the Records Center, or Marysville Municipal Court when that office truly keeps the record. Local policy waives the written request. No reason is needed for an ordinary public-record request either. Staff may still ask for clarification when a described record does not match an existing file, and the policy says a redaction or denial comes with an explanation.

City-by-City Court Dockets in Union County

Marysville serves as the countywide municipal-court hub. Dublin runs a separate Mayor's Court channel for eligible local cases. The division clerk and the type of record still decide where your follow-up goes.
